A Must Have Product for Bangs!!!

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

As a stylist, I have a million tools and products in my arsenal.  That being said, I try not to be tempted to buy yet another item that I will have to lug around with me on appointments.  I recently caved and bought a TS2 Mini Flat Iron and am so happy that I did.  I have blunt cut bangs and normally just blow dry them, but I thought I’d give the new iron a try.  Simply amazing!! The iron makes them look more polished and not too flat, but not too much bend either.  If you have bangs, this is definitely on my list of must-haves!!  I think it would also be great to get curly hair really straight at the root.  It’s sometimes really hard to get with a regular flat iron.

Beach Hair!

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

Surfer girls often have effortlessly beautiful hair…as demonstrated by these lovely pro surfer girls I had the opportunity to work with on a shoot with Ty Milford at a gorgeous beach-front home in Malibu.  To style their hair, they simply twist their hair into a bun and let it dry naturally, then let it down to reveal AMAZINGLY beautiful waves that you can’t achieve with a curling iron.

For us non surfer girls with naturally wavy hair, I recommend trying the following products for achieving beach-worthy hair:

1. Kenra Curl Defining Creme (Refines and separates curls and waves while taming frizz and flyaways)

2. Alterna Caviar “Beach” (A lightweight mist for beach-like texture)

3. Aquage Sea Salt Texturizing Spray  (For creating random “undone” texture and building volume)

First, apply some of Kenra’s Curl Defining Creme to damp hair and dry it with a diffuser to enhance natural wave.  If your hair tends to get frizzy, make sure you don’t touch it too much while your are diffusing it.  Then, use either the Alterna “Beach” spray or the Aquage Sea Salt Texturizing Spray to finish and give piecy texture and separation.  The Alterna spray is lighter and the Aquage spray creates more volume.

If you have any products that you love for wavy hair, please let us know by posting in our comments! We’d love to hear about them!!

I was recently interviewed by Brides Southern California  about my must-have products for brides for the Fall/Winter 2008 issue.  The story is called The Best of Beauty and is found on page 62.  I have a feeling we all listed the same products because I use pretty much all of the products listed in the story! Jennifer’s Pro Pics

Friday, June 27th, 2008

I just got some great pictures  and a sweet note from one of my brides last year…where does the time go?

“Hey Sherry,

A friend was asking for wedding vendor recommendations which led me back to your website and beautiful photos.  You did such an awesome hair and makeup job for me and I wanted to thank you again.  I also can’t remember if I sent you any of my pro pics.  I’ve attached my favorite shot of the makeup you did.

Here’s a link to a LOT of photos in case you want to browse.  Thank you again for making me look so good!”

 -Jennifer

Jennifer was blessed with naturally curly hair (one of my favorites!), so I used Tigi Bedhead Spoil Me on her hair prior to styling.  It’s great for defrizzing curly hair and giving it instant shine.  Then, I used a small iron to define some of her curls so there was a mixture of natural and more polished curls.  To finish the look, I just pinned a few sections out of her face for a soft, half-up look.

Jennifer wanted soft make-up, so I just perfected her skin with a bit of foundation and defined her eyes with a bit of liner and lashes…the look was completed with a rosy glow on the cheeks and lips.

I love how shiny and polished her curls look and the soft tendrils falling around her face.

Jennifer’s sister, Amy is also gifted in the hair department, so I had fun doing a coordinating style on her.

Here is Jennifer’s favorite make-up shot…how gorgeous are her eyes?!

The happy bride…

Thank you, Jennifer for sending these photos! What great memories :)

Some of My New Favorite Beauty Products!

Saturday, April 5th, 2008

As you can imagine, I am always on a quest to find the best hair and make-up products both for weddings and personal use.  I was at Ulta the other day, and decided to finally try Amazing Concealer after hearing about it for years.  I have to say, it lives up to it’s name! It is really highly pigmented so a very tiny amount covers everything, and doesn’t look cakey or dry. The best part is that it is waterproof…perfect for all of the happy tears shed at weddings.

I also purchased a set of O-Gloss and O-Blush by Smashbox.  They are “intuitive” make-up products that work with your body chemistry to turn the perfect shade of pink for your skin tone.  I like the gloss because it gives a really fresh look that brightens up your natural lip color…I figure it will be perfect for summer!

The blush is cool because it almost has the texture of a skin primer, so it seems to smooth out the pores on the cheek area…it starts out with no color and then when it makes contact with the skin, it looks like a cheek stain.
