Surfer girls often have effortlessly beautiful hair…as demonstrated by these lovely pro surfer girls I had the opportunity to work with on a shoot with Ty Milford at a gorgeous beach-front home in Malibu. To style their hair, they simply twist their hair into a bun and let it dry naturally, then let it down to reveal AMAZINGLY beautiful waves that you can’t achieve with a curling iron.
For us non surfer girls with naturally wavy hair, I recommend trying the following products for achieving beach-worthy hair:

1. Kenra Curl Defining Creme (Refines and separates curls and waves while taming frizz and flyaways)
2. Alterna Caviar “Beach” (A lightweight mist for beach-like texture)
3. Aquage Sea Salt Texturizing Spray (For creating random “undone” texture and building volume)
First, apply some of Kenra’s Curl Defining Creme to damp hair and dry it with a diffuser to enhance natural wave. If your hair tends to get frizzy, make sure you don’t touch it too much while your are diffusing it. Then, use either the Alterna “Beach” spray or the Aquage Sea Salt Texturizing Spray to finish and give piecy texture and separation. The Alterna spray is lighter and the Aquage spray creates more volume.
If you have any products that you love for wavy hair, please let us know by posting in our comments! We’d love to hear about them!!

So, I have the most tangly hair and sensitive scalp of anyone I know…just ask Mandi. Well, I finally found a detangler that works! It’s called It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-In Product. When I first saw it, I was a little skeptical, but I eventually decided to buy it. I figured it was worth a shot!

The bottle says it does 10 things instantly:
1. Repairs dry, damaged hair, 2. Adds shine, 3. De-tangles, 4. Controls frizz, 5. Seals & protects hair color, 6. Prevents split ends, 7. Stops hair breakage, 8. Creates silkiness, 9. Enhances natural body, 10. Flat iron spray & thermal protector.
It instantly made my hair feel softer and more manageable. I could easily comb through it, which is unheard of. I’m in love!!

So, my little brother “Skip” got married last month and I had the joy of being his bride Michelle’s hair and make-up artist as well as one of her bridesmaids!! It was the most amazing day. I could not imagine a more perfect wedding. Skip even let me put a little make-up on him…what a trooper! All of these images are by the very talented Joshua Caine, who is based in the Central Coast.

Her gorgeous veil…

Putting in the veil…Can you tell she’s excited?! It warmed my heart so much seeing how happy she was to be marrying my little brother.
About Michelle’s hair and make-up: Michelle has the perfect head of hair…I simply curled it and pinned it up for a simple, romantic look. She doesn’t wear a speck of make-up normally, and I didn’t want to scare my brother by going overboard so we kept it very natural. Tinted moisturizer and a bit of powder kept her looking flawless. I did “Harmony” blush by MAC on her cheeks and we used Burts Bees tinted lipbalm for some color on her lips.

The groomsmen…My husband Ryan is second from the right.

Skip looking handsome…
Quick note about his “Make-up”…I used MAC SPF 50 Make-up primer all over his face. Along with the awesome sun protection factor (Outdoor wedding!), it mattifies the face. My husband Ryan uses it everyday and loves it. I also used a bit of powder and bronzer for color and cleaned up his eye brows. He had his own lip balm. This is what I would recommend for all of you grooms out there for your pre-wedding “Grooming” routine!

The ceremony and reception were held at Santa Margarita Ranch…isn’t it beautiful?! You can’t tell from this picture, thank goodness, but I was balling like a baby during the entire thing!! I couldn’t even stop myself!

The bride and her ‘maids!

I just love this shot of Michelle…she is such a lovely girl and it captures her natural beauty. I especially love how the backlighting gives her hair a glow from the back.

Skip and Michelle, I wish you a lifetime of happiness together. May God richly bless your marriage!!

I just noticed that Jim Kennedy posted Linda’s photos from her wedding last month. As you can see from her photos, Linda has a gorgeous smile and great skin. She was a dream to work with, as were her bridesmaids. Her fiance wasn’t really into a heavily made-up look, so I kept it pretty natural. Enjoy!

Marilyn helped me out by doing most of the bridesmaid’s hair.
